My Instant Pick-Me-Up Experience!
As Medical Aesthetics Manager with the Facial Surgery & Cosmetic Centre of Ottawa for almost 15 years, I have had the opportunity to personally experience different types of facial fillers as well as the evolution of injectable products. I have seen many injectable types of filler come and go and personally believe I have found my favourite. I was injected yesterday at the Centre by one of our nurse injection specialists. She used a product by Anteis, made in Switzerland, called Fortelis. This product is developed from hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in our body, and requires no pre- testing for sensitivity. The injection was delivered through a new technique using a cannula, an injection system which delivers the product evenly with continuous pressure to avoid potential bruising and increased the comfort level of the treatment.
This simple procedure instantly remodelled my facial contour line and increased the volume I’ve lost over time in my cheeks and jaw line. This procedure gave me an instant ‘lift’ and a more youthful, full face! I also notice a dramatic improvement in the suppleness of my skin directly below the areas injected; And best of all – no bruising or sensitivity today! Seems to be the new cosmetic “buzz” word going around these days and most make-up lines are jumping on the band wagon! New 100% Mineral Make-up - “I want it” says the consumer. But why? Does the average consumer even know what minerals are in make-up? And why is this supposed to be better than the regular liquid make-ups we’ve used for years?
Minerals are rocks occurring in nature comprised of inorganic substances. An example of mineral would be zinc. The molecule size of a mineral in any mineral make-up is too large to penetrate the skin’s pores, therefore does not clog the pores. A mineral is also considered “inorganic” (meaning not alive). Minerals cannot harbour bacteria, therefore, mineral make-up is considered to be “anti-bacterial”. So for these two reasons, mineral make-up is the healthier choice for your skin. But now, how do we choose between the hundreds of mineral make-up lines out there? Easy, it’s about the percentage of quality ingredients.
There are many make-up lines that do consist of 100% minerals, but in my opinion, this is not the BEST option. Jane Iredale is 88% minerals. They are purposely only 88% minerals to leave room in the product for anti-aging ingredients and powerful anti-oxidants such as green tea. It also consists of healing ingredients like pine bark, plankton extract and licorice root. Jane Iredale make-up will actually improve the overall health and quality of your skin, as for these reasons, it is the best make-up choice for your skin!

Being in this industry for several years I have come across many clients that seem to have the same complaint…Melasma. Melasma usually occurs during pregnancy and that is why it is referred to as a ‘pregnancy mask’. It can also occur if you are taking birth control or on hormone replacement therapy. Now that I too am pregnant, I can speak from experience as to how traumatic it can be for someone. The hormonal changes that occur cause this discolouration in the skin and can vary from very subtle to very severe. Melasma is a skin condition in which the skin begins to over produce melanin and therefore patches of discolouration appear. It has specific characteristics in which it can be described as map-like and is usually located on the cheeks and forehead. There are several ways in which to correct this issue and we have found to achieve excellent results for many of our clients. With something like our Obagi system, you not only correct the discolouration, but you also change the skin in a few ways. The skin will start to appear smoother, much more refined pores, softened lines, improvement in acne and of course much brighter skin! Please note that you must wait until after pregnancy/breastfeeding to begin this treatment as it is a contraindication. If you are one of these individuals such as myself suffering from uneven skin, call us to book an appointment and we will get your skin as bright as it can be!
