Pulsed light hair removal is a fast, comfortable and permanent alternative to shaving, waxing and electrolysis. The Palomar pulsed light hair removal system emits light that disables the cells responsible for growing hair. The system works in a way that is very similar to “laser hair removal” but the difference is that the Palomar system can treat a larger area.

The system is very safe however, due to the intensity of the light it uses it should not be used around the eyes. The treatment is comfortable although you may experience a sensation similar to a mild sunburn. This usually lasts 2 to 24 hours and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs. In order to achieve a permanent result several treatments will be necessary.

Recently you may have heard Dr. Oz express his concerns with the use of talc in some cosmetics. There are cosmetic companies that are share these concerns. We would like to pass along a note from Jane Iredale, president and founder of Iredale Mineral Cosmetics:

Dear Valued Customer,

The lightest mineral of all is talc. If anything will fly through the air when applying powder, it will be talc. Remember that talc mimics asbestos. However, there is a difference between the structure of talc that is used industrially and that used in cosmetics. If you are looking to use talc in something like concrete for instance, you would use talc with a spiky structure so that it sticks. Typically when using talc in makeup it is in a spherical shape so that the formula is smooth and blendable. When talc is airborne it is easy to inhale, but we do not use talc anywhere in our line.

The mica we use in our formulas is the heaviest mica that you can get and differs from the mica used industrially. It is also coated in oil making it even heavier. The chances of it becoming airborne are low, however if it were to become airborne there is no scientific evidence of any lung irritation; no more so than dust particles present in the air we breathe.

You can be rest assured that Jane Iredale mineral makeup is a safe and beneficial product, aiding to the health of skin.

Developed by Procter & Gamble and Canfield Imaging Systems, the VISIA Complexion Analysis System captures multi-spectral photos of the face, examining the complexion for wrinkles, spots, pores, texture (color variation in the skin tone), porphyrins (evidence of bacteria in pores),and UV spots (characteristic of photodamage, typically from overexposure to sun). Additionally, the VISIA system can grade an individual’s skin features relative to others of the same age and skin type.

Balance between facial features is the key to beauty when we look at a person’s face. Of all facial features, the nose is the most prominent and undoubtedly the one many patients would most like to change. Septorhinoplasty, more commonly referred to as a “nose job”, is surgery to reshape the nose. This operation can change the profile, the width, the tip or the nostril’s shape. In addition to removing undesirable bulges, Dr. Antoniak can make the nose more diminutive or larger, narrower, shorter, longer, or more symmetrical to your face. The goal is to
give you a natural looking nose that is well suited to your face and more aesthetically pleasing. Septorhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient surgery at the Riverside Hospital. Normally performed under general anaesthesia, the procedure takes only 1.5 hours to 2 hours on average to perform. The common surgical technique performed by Dr. Antoniak is the “open approach”, involving the placement of incisions inside the rim of the nostrils and across their base. This approach allows for better exposure for the surgeon and barely visible scars for the patient once healing is complete. Surprisingly, there is very little pain after the procedure with most patients back to work after 7-10 days.
